Hands Across the Valley Quilters Guild


Calendar of Events 2011-2012

All regular meetings are held at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, 867 North Pleasant Street, Amherst, from 2:30 pm to 4:30 pm on the second Sunday of the month (except where noted with an asterisk). Workshops are normally held at another location. Information will be given at workshop sign-up.

Non-member fee is $1.00 per meeting and $5.00 per meeting when there is a guest speaker.

NOTE: In the event of inclement weather, the Guild President will decide by 9:00 a.m. of that morning whether or not to hold a meeting. A cancellation will be announced on NEWS40 Storm Trackers WGGB-TV and on this website.

September

Sunday 9/11

Join us for the first meeting of the year. Bring projects you have been working on for Show & Tell!

October

Friday, 10/21*

"Creating the Illusion of Depth," a workshop by Esterita Austin in which you'll learn about perspective, value, and light source for your quilts.

Saturday, 10/22*

" Painting for Illusion," a second workshop by Esterita Austin where you can learn how to embellish and enhance your quilt top with paint!.

Sunday, 10/23

"Classic Rock" a powerpoint/trunk show presentation by Esterita Austin in which she shares a humorous look at her quilt journey. The focus is on the power of value over color in constructing dramatic compositions.

November

Saturday, 11/5*

Bus trip to "A Quilters' Gathering," in Nashua NH, 8am-6pm. $25 plus $10 quilt show entrance fee. Optional: 12:30 lunch/lecture is "StrataVarious Quilts" by sisters Mary Hoover and Barbara Persing. Based on their book, this lecture/trunk show will inspire you to design your own strata quilts. Tickets are $20.00 at the show.

Join us for our annual Holiday Celebration, including the famous Dessert Buffet! Bring a dessert for the buffet table and your latest quilting project for Show & Tell. We'll have an optional gift exchange - bring a quilt-related gift (under $10, please.)

Saturday, 2/11*

Community Projects Weekend!Bring your sewing machine, to S. Congregational Church, Amherst and stay for several hours or just one hour to join in making quilts for community agencies. It's fun, it's worthwhile! The more the merrier - the more sewers, the more quilts to give!

Second day of Community Projects Let's finish all those quilt tops sewn and basted on Saturday. You'll be amazed to see the quilts that were finished on Saturday!!

Jane Davila will offer us new insights into "Discovering Found Objects." Join us all for a new look at our world.

Join us for our Potluck Luncheon - bring your favorite appetizer, casserole, or dessert. Plan on a delicious lunch and bring your latest quilting project for a wonderful end-of-the-year Show & Tell!

Workshop Policy Guild Policy regarding workshops is that half of the fee must be paid when enrolling. Space is not reserved until half of the fee is paid. Once enrolled in a workshop, if you decide to cancel, you are responsible for finding someone else to take your space. Remaining fees are payable the day of the workshop.  Please contact us for additional information.
