Hands Across the Valley Quilters Guild
Hands All Around XIII Quilt Show

It is time to begin thinking about the Hands Across The Valley quilt show which will be held on Saturday, March 26th and Sunday March 27th 2011. The show will be held in a new venue!

Mullins Center Concourse

Commonwealth Avenue on the University of Massachusetts, Amherst Campus

Directions to get to the Mullins Center and for parking (free for the show) can be found here.

The hours are 10 am - 4 pm each day (but opening for the physically challenged at 9:30 am).

Admission to the show: Adults- $8.00, Children (6-12) - $2.00 (5 years and under--Free)

Students- $4.00 (must show ID)

We expect to have 400+ quilts and in addition to some old favorites, we will have a variety of new events and features for this show. We will be adding information about each of the events to this page of the website and will post any entry forms required for them as they become available.

SHOW EVENTS


  • "Alzheimer's Illustrated: From Heartbreak To Hope" --A special display from the ALZHEIMER'S ART QUILT INITIATIVE, sponsored by the Alzheimer's Association MA/NH Chapter with a grant from the Ivan Hoyt Family. Nationally known quilter and teacher, Ami Simms, will be attending the premier showing of this special display! She will give a lecture with a PowerPoint presentation about the Alzheimer's Art Quilt Initiative and the new traveling exhibit, 12:00 noon on Saturday, and 11:00 a.m. on Sunday.
  • The 2011 Raffle Quilt--This quilt has been made by the guild members. Raffle tickets are $1.00 per ticket or a booklet of 6 for $5.00.
  • Mini-Quilt Auction --A live mini-quilt auction will be held both Saturday and Sunday. We will post preview pictures of the quilts as we receive them. 
  • Show Us Your Bags!--A silent auction of "Bags." Everyone attending will be able to bid on these purses,clutches,satchels and handbags. The winners will be announced at the end of the show on Sunday. You can bid as many times as you would like in order to be able to purchase the "Bag" of your choice.   • The 2013 Raffle Quilt--The quilt for 2013 will be showcased at the 2011 show.
  • Viewer's Choice Quilt Challenge--The 2011 Theme is "Landscape Quilts". Entries should be no larger than 45" on one side and depict a landscape. The winner will be chosen Sunday 2pm by a tally of viewer ballots. Ribbons will be awarded. First place receives a gift basket of fabric and items of interest to quilters. One entry per person. The entry form is the same as the general Quilt Show entry form.
  • Demonstrations--There will be a booth showing how to accomplish some of the new and old techniques of quilting, along with samples.
  • Children's Corner--Fabric crafts and activities for kids all ages. Kids can make their own patchwork tote bags for a nominal fee. An adult must be present with the child in this area.
  • Vendors--We will have over 20 vendors displaying their wares.
  • Food--Food will be available throughout the entire two days to supply light luncheon, beverages and snacks.
  • Parking--FREE parking is available at the Mullins Center- no fee will be charged.
  • Quilt Appraisal--We will have a quilt appraiser available. A written appraisal is $40 for the first quilt; $35 for each addtional quilt. A verbal appraisal is $18 for each quilt. The appraisal appointment form can be found here.
  • Raffle Baskets-- There will be themed baskets full of goodies raffled off to support charitable causes.
