Raffle Quilt
It takes our guild three years of preparation to have our raffle
quilt ready for our quilt show . After all of the work we put into the raffle quilt, it is very hard to part from it.
However, we know that whomever receives it will
treasure it. We started work on the 2011 raffle quilt before our 2009 show.
Three years before the quilt show, a committee prepares samples
of quilts and various designs are presented to our members. The members vote for their
favorite design. After one is selected, block kits are distributed among our members
to make the quilt blocks. Next, members volunteer to assemble the quilt top. After
the top is assembled, it is quilted. Every
member of the guild helps to sell the tickets, but they are
equipped with a lovely picture of the quilt, and therefore selling the tickets is not
hard. It takes a lot of hard work to make the guild raffle quilt but the effort is worth it.
The proceeds of the raffle quilt are donated to charities selected by the membership of the guild, such as the New England Quilt Museum, Hospice of Franklin County, Hospice of Hampshire County and Hospice of Hamden County.
